a great table

This little table needed a lot of love.  The price had been reduced 3 times at the Goodwill ~ obviously, no one was seeing its potential.

I'm actually surprised to see how good it looks in the 'before' pictures.  A little deceptive, if you ask me!

I sanded the top down to the bare wood.  There was one really deep scratch that I was unable to completely remove ~ I can picture how it probably happened… imagine a toddler, with a fork, just going to town on it!

 Great lines on this piece.
I primed & painted the bottom.

I actually liked the look of the natural wood with the white base.  However, I've found that when I'm selling pieces, the darker stain seems to do better.  Anyone else had experience with this?

It is perfect.  I left it un-distressed for some reason, just couldn't bring myself to attack it with the sand paper.

See the scratch in the top right corner?  The dark stain helped to camouflage it, but it's still there.  Character, right?

Thanks for stopping by!

old violet

Y'all are so funny about my crooked pictures post :)

I had fun with this one.  I painted it in Old Violet Chalk paint and went to town with the dark wax.

Before, it was pretty blah.  Even with a bicycle helmet on, it was blah :)

I went sparingly with the wax at first, but then stepped it up.

Now remember, when you see this "after" shot, I'm no longer able to move furniture around by myself (wimpy old broken right arm!) so I can't get a really good staged after shot :(
I am tickled with it!  And, it is already sold :)  Makes my day!  Happy Tuesday, everyone!

crooked pictures & a sideboard

Has anyone besides me noticed that all of my pictures are just a slight bit crooked?  Leaning to the left?

I've noticed it & been perplexed, but finally figured it out this morning.  I feel like I'm holding the camera steady with both hands… but my weaker right arm (the one that was broken) is actually not holding the camera with the same amount of pressure as my left arm.  Thus, crooked pictures!  Oh well.

This sideboard was a find from the North Fulton Community Center thrift shop ~ it's a hike for me to get there, but always seems worth the drive.

As usual, I was able to slide it out of my car onto its side all by myself, but had to wait for backup to get it situated :)

Don't you just love the brass plates?

I primed & painted… oldschool.  No chalk paint on this one.

The original hardware was beautiful, so I kept it.

A Goodwill Redeems Itself

When a Goodwill opened in our community recently, I was thrilled.  There are several close by, but this one was really-really close.  However, I soon learned that the Goodwill in Dunwoody was *very* proud of it's furniture.  The prices were outrageous.

Week after week, I'd go in & see the same pieces still sitting there.  Some marked down, eventually, but a piece that would sell for $35 at another Goodwill would be marked $175 at this one.  Truly, I'm not exaggerating.

I even spoke with the manager a few times (yes, I'm a dork like that).  I told her that I'd love to buy from her store, but her prices were so ridiculous I wasn't even visiting that often.

Finally, months & months later, they got the message.  And I'm thrilled to say that I'm now a happy supporter of our local Goodwill!

They had these two pieces last time I went in (wait till I show you the solid oak, super-duper claw foot round table I got there, too!)…

After my chalk paint obsession lately, I went old-school on this one.  I primed & painted in color matched Heirloom White.

And it came out great.

Sometimes it's fun to go back to the basics!
