huge once-modern cabinet

I hope you all had a fabulous 4th of July… I know we sure did!  I, for one, can always use a reminder to be grateful for this wonderful country we live in and the 4th does that for me every year.

So a client of mine brought me this cabinet for a makeover.  She wanted it to look like an antique.  Although this is a cool piece, it certainly doesn't say 'antique'.  So I had my work cut our for me.

The first part was easy.  The delivery guy was getting it off the truck and accidentally put his knee through the right side glass panel (thankfully, he was wearing jeans and wasn't hurt.)  That made the first decision easy ~ good-bye glass.

Just to give you an idea, here is the glass we cleaned up AFTER we had picked up all of the big pieces.  It was awful.

I primed the cabinet & painted it in color matched heirloom white (behr ultra paint/primer).  I painted the inside with a krylon spray paint that I had sitting around (let me know if you want the color, I'm sure I can find it).  I let the blue spray paint get on the doors a bit, so it would show through when I distressed.

Then I went to town with the cabinet scrapers & the sandpaper.  I finished with a dark wax, and added painted chicken wire for the panels on the doors.

These pictures really don't do it justice.  I had to take them quickly, as this piece never made it out of my garage for a proper photo shoot.

After:

(Before chicken wire was added)...

Final product:

I am very tickled about it ~ my neighbor sealed the deal for me when she popped over & asked me what era the cabinet was from… Uhm, 2011??  This piece has 3 interior shelves but I didn't have the pins to hold them into place for pictures, so you'll just have to imagine it :)

thanks for stopping by!
