french + graphite

This piece was horrific looking!  I guess you see them everywhere, but the gold & white combo never really gets any easier to take.  I found it at My Favorite Place in Chamblee.

Before…

I painted it in Annie Sloan's graphite ~ which changes colors depending on the light.  Sometimes it is blue, sometimes gray, sometimes black.   It gave this dresser a dramatic look that I really like.  After painting, I distressed with a cabinet scraper (my newest love) and went over the whole piece in clear & then dark wax.  I painted the original hardware a glossy black.

After…

I listed it & had an offer on it within the hour ~ crazy, after they got here later that evening, we learned they had driven from Chattanooga to get here!!  { that is about a 1.5 hour trip, if you don't know }

Love people who are furniture-crazy like me :)

  1. Beautiful! I recently bought a bedroom suit just like this, I have been dreading sanding all of that yelowy paint. Maybe I should try the chalk paint, did it go right over that glossy like finish?
